Hackers are always lurking in disguise into the public Wi-Fi region to access information being transmitted over them. Hacking can be done from any place, whether it could be a hotel lobby, airport, coffee shop, any public transport, etc. Therefore, it is mandatory to use public Wi-Fi safely. Without any further delay, let’s quickly dig into the article to check the inevitable 5 ways to use Wi-Fi safely.

5 Tips for Using Public Wi-Fi Safely:

Here the 5 general tips for using public Wi-Fi is illustrated below:

1. Only connect to the conversant or verified network:

The stalest way for hackers to snitch your information is by connecting to public Wi-Fi. A public Wi-Fi often stores all the information regarding whatever you share on social media to whom you are sharing those with.

Therefore, it is inevitable to verify the Wi-Fi network’s name and appropriate SSID from a legal staff member. Apart from that, keep evading the newer connections and try to connect only to the older one.

Turning off your sharing preferences every time you connect to a public Wi-Fi will significantly prevent you from getting hacked. Turn on sharing preferences only when you have to share something urgent with your friend and colleague.

2. VPN is Mandatory:

Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides you a complete encryption policy while sending any data over a network. The data will be transmitted through a secured tunnel between the client and the server.

While you are using public Wi-Fi, all your data goes from your browser to the online server. But, with the help of a VPN, a protected feature stands in between your browser and the online server that you are associated with.

Therefore, VPN is possibly the secured way to retain your information from being hacked on public Wi-Fi due to its robust encryption.

3. Only go with the HTTPS sites:

If you are unable to access a free VPN due to some pesky reasons, make sure only go with the HTTPS sites.  This is significant because of the encryption of whatever data you have sent via your browser to the online server.

With the help of a padlock symbol, you can easily perceive whether the website is safe or not! Click on the padlock symbol to verify if the SSL certificate is from an authorized body.

4. Always stick to the Firewall:

Firewalls may be a significant cause of resentment. Connecting to a public Wi-Fi most of the time may endanger your data transmission. Therefore, you need to keep the Firewall on. It will undoubtedly be the best source to keep your data protected from being hacked if they continuously try to access any unlicensed source.

A firewall acts as a shield to your device from being invaded by various data-based malware. It is an experienced security person that verifies every data via the safest network. Just enable the ‘Firewall’ option from your browser before starting internet surfing.

5. Never share any sensitive information:

Always make sure not to indulge in sharing any kind of provocative information while using public Wi-Fi. Neither any kind of sharing personal information nor any transaction on the open-access of the internet! In case you have to share personal information, wait to return from the office. As at home, you only get private network assurance for sharing that vital information.

Conclusion:

Digital security has become a terrifying threat nowadays. We have to perceive the jeopardies of public Wi-Fi. This may protect internet users and our pleasant ones getting entangled into malicious data thefts. As mentioned above, the tips are simple, hassle-free, and might defend you from cyber-criminals from being exposed. We just need to ensure those tips before connecting to any public Wi-Fi. Therefore, keeping in mind all those points will eventually protect you from those setbacks.

How to Find Your Router IP Address?

July 24, 2020 By Jack Carson

IP address, which actually means internet protocol address, is specifically a special numerical label that is assigned to each and every device that is connected to some computer network that uses Internet Protocol for the purposes of communication.

The IP address isn’t that simple to decipher though as it is of two types, public or external IP address, and local IP address. When you are willing to deal with the IP address of your router, you should know that you are actually talking about a local IP address.

At times one might want to know the IP address as one might need to troubleshoot a network issue or one might need to configure a particular software or one might need to know it for some unavoidable purpose. So, let’s see how one can find one’s IP address.

  • Netgear Router Login – Routerlogin.Net

Best Ways to Find Router’s IP Address:

Method1: Through Command Prompt

  • Find out the Windows icon which is placed in the bottom left of your Windows screen, and right-click on that. Then, select the option of “command prompt”. In case you cannot find the option of “command prompt”, type “command prompt” in the Windows’ search section. Later, double click on the application of “command prompt” or press enter.
  • After clicking on “command prompt”, a new window shall appear. Type “IPCONFIG”, which means “IP configuration”, and then press enter.
  • Later, you would have to find the “Default section” written somewhere down the screen. The number written in front of it shall be the IP address of your router.

In case you are unable to follow the awfully simple procedure of finding your router’s IP address through “command prompt”, you can try using the option of “control panel”, and follow the set of steps mentioned below –

Method2: Through Control Panel

Access the Windows search bar, and find the option of “control panel” and click on it, or, simply type “control panel” and press enter.

  • A window shall appear titled “Control Panel”. Find the option of “Network and Internet”, and click on the option of “View network status and tasks” given below in the light blue color under the “Network and Internet”
  • A new window shall appear, in which you would be able to find the link for “Connection: Wifi”. Click on that link.
  • A pop-up box shall appear in which you would have to find the option of details and click on it.
  • A small box shall appear with a list, titled Network Connection Details. Find “IPv4 Default Gateway” and there would be a number written in front of it. That number would be your IP address.

But in case you aren’t a Windows user, you might have to follow a completely different set of steps. So, if you are a Mac user, you would have two major options to find your IP address, system preferences, and a terminal application.

Method3: Find IP Address on MAC

  • Click on the logo of Apple which is placed on the top left corner of your screen, following which a drop-down menu shall appear. Find the option of system preferences and click on that.
  • A box of options shall appear titled System Preferences. Find the option of “Network” somewhere down the box, specifically, besides the option of “Software Update”.
  • A new box of options shall appear titled Network. Find the option of “WiFi” in the left panel and click on that.
  • Find the tab of TCP/IP present in the top panel and click on that.

The moment you will click on it, you shall find “Router” somewhere in the middle of the screen. The number written in front of it shall be your router’s IP address.

Method4: Through the option of the Terminal App

  • Access the “Terminal App” by opening the folder for “Applications” and double-clicking on the option of “Utilities”.
  • Later, type “netstat -nr/grep default” and press enter
  • A new box displaying some information would appear where you would have to find a specific number written mentioned in front of “default”. That very number is would be your IP address

Conclusion:

In case you are an Android user, you might not be able to extract the information of your IP address through the Android system as Android doesn’t allow access to that information. So, in that case, you would have to install apps that are specifically used in order to find the IP address of a router through Android, One such example of that application is Wi-Fi Analyzer.
